Product detailed description
Cochin asparagus or Tian Men Dong (lat. Asparagus cochinchinensis) is an herb used in traditional Chinese medicine.
Cochin asparagus is native to East and Southeast Asia, China, Japan, and Korea. Unfortunately, only one type of asparagus is found in the wild in the Czech Republic – medicinal asparagus.
Asparagus is a perennial plant growing up to 1.5 meters tall. It blooms from March to June and the seeds ripen in early autumn – most often during September. The flowers are dioecious – the plant has either female or male flowers. If we want the plant to bear fruit, it is necessary to have plants with both sexes. Pollen is transferred by insects (most often bees). Several plant parts are used therapeutically or in culinary arts. The rhizome, which is about 5 cm long and 2 cm wide, is boiled after separating the fibers of the tissue (the bitter part) and the core is then eaten. Other sources recommend soaking the rhizome cores in sugar and then consuming them. Some gardeners declare that the fruits are also edible, other sources do not recommend eating asparagus berries.
The provisions of Regulation (EC) No. 1924/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council, on nutrition and health claims, do not allow us to inform you about the positive effects of this plant on your body. Please find information about its effects in freely available sources on the Internet or in literature.
