Bearded skullcap or BAN ZHI LIAN (lat. Scutellaria barbata) is a perennial plant reaching a height of up to 50 cm. The stem is smooth, even fibrous, very thin, with a square plan of dark purple, brownish green color. The root hairs are very thin. The leaves are opposite with a short petiole, toothed edges, rather sword-lanceolate in shape, up to 3 cm long and 5–10 mm wide. At the base, the leaves are rather gray-green and those located higher have a darker shade of green. The bisexual flowers are blue, even pink in color.
The homeland of the bearded skullcap is southeast China, from where it got into the folk medicine of Korea and part of Vietnam. Today, the skullcap is grown in Japan, China and Korea. It has become a favored herb of traditional Chinese medicine.

Traditional use:
Put one large teaspoon of dried bearded coneflower in 200 ml of cold water
and boil for about 10–15 minutes over low heat. Add water if necessary. The decoction prepared in this way is used once a day.
Warning: Not suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women, children.
