Product detailed description
Black mustard is an annual self-pollinating plant growing up to 1.5 m tall. It is native to the Mediterranean, and is now considered cosmopolitan. The stem is erect, richly branched at the end. It blooms with small yellow flowers from June to August. The fruit is a flattened, up to 2 cm long pod containing 4–8 1 mm seeds.
The seeds are harvested, which ripen from July to September and are used in gastronomy. Unlike white mustard, which comes from the mustard plant (lat. Sinapis alba), black mustard has a more pronounced taste. It has greater pungency, sharpness and a pleasant pungency, which especially enhances pickles. Crushed seeds mixed with water can be used as compresses on affected areas of the skin.
Ingredients: 100% Brassica nigra. Allergen: Mustard and products made from it.
Use:
Black mustard is mainly used in the preparation of oriental cuisine. It is excellent for pickling vegetables, mushrooms or for preparing some sauces or marinating fish. We recommend trying to fry the mustard in oil and add vegetables as soon as the seeds start to pop.
