Greater burdock, lat. Arctium lappa, is a tall biennial growing up to 2.7 m tall. The root is harvested, which is spindle-shaped, gray-brown, white inside and sometimes reaches a depth of 80 cm. The leaves are large, heart-shaped, with a long petiole, covered with white hairs on the underside. The flowers are striking purple-red, sometimes pink, arranged in racemes with a diameter of 3–4 cm. The plant blooms from July to September.
Greater burdock contributes to maintaining normal skin and upper respiratory tract health. It is also known to support the immune system and maintain normal digestive function. It has an effect on the body's drainage and on the health and normal function of cartilage. The root affects the blood glucose level and helps purify the blood.
External use: Burdock decoction can be used for rinses to promote hair growth, for poorly healing wounds, oily skin, acne and rashes.
Traditional use:
Pour two teaspoons of burdock root over 500 ml of hot water and let it boil briefly. Another option is to let the root soak in cold water overnight and then just heat it. Drink during the day.
Warning: It does not replace a varied diet. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage.
For rinses for external use, prepare a decoction of 1–2 tablespoons of the root per 500 ml of water. Boil and drain.
