The Carolina Reaper chili (lat. Capsicum chinense) is a pepper growing 3–7 cm long and 2–3 cm wide. Since 2013, it has been listed as the hottest pepper in the world and has surpassed the Trinidad Scorpion Bhut chili in terms of spiciness. Carolina is an extremely hot hybrid pepper of the Capsicum chinense species. It is a cross between Jolokia Bhut and red Habanero.
In addition to the gradually increasing tide of scorching fire, the Carolina chili is subtly sweet, chocolatey and fruity. A hint of cinnamon is also described. The aroma is typical of dried peppers. When perceiving the smell, a slight pungency is felt in the nose and eyes.
