Product detailed description
Catuaba (lat. Erythroxylum catuaba) is a small tree growing to a height of approximately 2–4 m. It originates from the Amazon. In South America it is also known as cataguá or tatuaba.
In traditional medicine, the parts used are the roots and bark of this tree.
A Brazilian proverb says: "If a man fathers a son after sixty, he is the son of catuaba." The abundance of use and popularity of catuaba is evidenced by many celebratory chants, songs and poems among the indigenous population.
Since catuaba is not a very well-known plant in Europe, no company has submitted a proposal for the recognition of any of the health claims for which catuaba is used and, according to Regulation (EC) No. 1924/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council, we are therefore not allowed to inform about these health benefits. More information can be found in the herbarium.
Traditional use:It is most often drunk as a decoction. Prepare this from 1.5 tablespoons per 1 liter. Let it boil for 5 minutes and then let the infusion stand for another 10–15 minutes. Serve 3 times a day, one cup.
Many indigenous people prepare the drink as a combination of muira puama and catuaba. They let a handful of this combination steep overnight in room temperature water and drink the amber-colored drink in the morning at the beginning of the next day.
