Product detailed description
Masticha Chios, lat. Pistacia lentiscus, is a dioecious evergreen tree growing up to 5 m tall. It grows in dry and rocky areas around the European Mediterranean. The leaves of the mastic tree are alternate, leathery, dark green and tend to be palmately pinnate, the inflorescence is small.
The plant has a very aromatic resin, which is collected as a spice, especially on the southern islands of Greece in the Aegean Sea, where it is called the tears of Chios. It is an initially liquid raw material that solidifies when exposed to colder air and forms transparent tears or loaves.
Chios mastic is used in its raw form as an ingredient in the preparation of dishes and sweets, for the preparation of medicines, cosmetics and perfumes.
It is used in oral hygiene and contributes to the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.
The provisions of Regulation (EC) No. 1924/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council, on nutrition and health claims, do not allow us to inform you about other effects of this plant on your body. Please find information about its effects in freely available sources on the Internet or in literature.
Traditional use:
For an adult, it is recommended to take 2–3 g of Chios mastic crystals per day. It is advisable to put the dose in your mouth, let it soften and gradually start biting. After some time, a harder gum is formed. When chewing, the yellow color changes to light white and opaque.
We recommend testing the hardness of the mastic before putting it in your mouth. If you come across a fresh (softer) piece, it is advisable to leave it outside the bag for 1-2 days to harden. The mastic will then form a harder gum.
