Coltsfoot or common coltsfoot (lat. Tussilago farfara) is a perennial plant growing up to 15 cm tall. It is characterized by a long creeping rhizome, which reaches a length of more than one meter. It grows throughout Asia and Europe, most often in moist habitats, such as ditches, meadows or the edges of rivers and streams. It was also introduced to North America. The rhizomes and stem are scaly, the flowers are bright yellow. Interestingly, the leaves grow only after the plant has bloomed. Coltsfoot blooms from March to April and the flowers are collected.
Coltsfoot contributes to maintaining normal respiratory function and has an effect on the immune system.
