Comfrey root is processed in food standards, but according to Decree No. 58/2018 Coll., comfrey may not be used as a food or dietary supplement. Salvia Paradise® supplies comfrey only as a raw material for external use and further processing (e.g. in cosmetics).
Comfrey (Latin: Symphytum officinale) is a perennial herb growing up to 100 cm tall. It belongs to the Boraginaceae family. Alternate, finely hairy, ovate-lanceolate leaves are located on a straight stem, which branches profusely in the upper part. The inflorescence is colored from reddish to purple, exceptionally white or pink can be found. It blooms from May to July. The plant prefers a moist environment with loamy to clay soil. It is most often found near streams and river banks, in wet meadows or in forests. The root is collected and used externally.
External use: For aching joints and bones.
