Coriander, lat. Coriandrum sativum, is an annual plant growing up to one meter tall. Its homeland is Western Asia, today it grows wild in the Mediterranean and has been cultivated in India, Egypt and the Czech Republic since time immemorial. The stem is upright, richly branched with serrated leaves. It blooms in June and July with pink to white flowers.
The fruit is a capsule containing seeds with a pleasant aroma. The collected part is the fruits and leaves of coriander, which are used both in gastronomy as a spice and in folk medicine. It is one of the oldest spices, which was already mentioned in the Old Testament.
Coriander contributes to the normal function of the digestive system - it reduces flatulence, affects appetite. It has an effect on urinary function, nervous system and cardiovascular health. Coriander normalizes cholesterol levels, supports the immune system and acts as an antioxidant. It is recommended for maintaining the natural health of the skin.
Use:
Coriander leaves are particularly suitable for preparing oriental and Mexican cuisine. We recommend trying them as an ingredient in Indian and Mexican dishes, especially chicken, rice or for preparing chutney. We can also use them to season vegetable salads or mushrooms.
