Cretan extra virgin olive oil 500 ml BIO RAPUNZEL

The island of Crete is considered the cradle of olive oil and to this day the local oils are highly valued. Olive oil is a staple food in Crete and is also credited with the longevity of the local population. This extra virgin olive oil is made from Cretan Koroneiki olives, which are washed and gently pressed immediately after harvest. Pressing immediately after harvest is very important, the longer the time between harvest and pressing, the higher the content of undesirable free fatty acids. The oil is pressed slowly to prevent it from heating during pressing, and is therefore also suitable for vegetarians. Its only further processing consists of mechanical filtration (without the use of activated carbon). We recommend using Cretan oil in Mediterranean cuisine, in salads, spreads and dressings and for seasoning soups and dishes at the end of cooking. Do not use oil for frying, it would be a waste.

Olive oil generally stands out for its high content of monounsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E and is the basis of the traditional Mediterranean diet. The quality of olive oil is evaluated according to several criteria: acidity, aroma, color and taste. The method of obtaining the oil from olives is also important. The so-called extra virgin olive oil comes from the first pressing of olives and has low acidity and a delicate aroma. It is obtained only mechanically - by cold pressing - without the use of any chemical refining.
