The Deglet Nour date variety is known as the queen of dates. Its golden-amber fruits are very juicy, firm and have a full sweet taste reminiscent of honey and caramel. Dried dates are a great ingredient in table mixes of nuts and dried fruits and a suitable snack for children. Chopped dates are used to sweeten porridge, yoghurts, fruit salads and various desserts, and date syrup to sweeten dishes is obtained by blending pitted dates boiled in water. The dates themselves are a quick source of energy for trips and sports. These dates were grown by family businesses involved in the fair trade project HAND IN HAND. Fair trade guarantees fair remuneration to farmers from developing countries and prohibits slave and child labor.
