Detailed information

Product detailed description

* VVLP (reserved veterinary medicinal product)

Antiparasitic collar for cats and small dogs weighing up to 8 kg against ticks, fleas and their developmental stages and lice in dogs.

Effective against fleas and ticks for up to 8 months.

Indications:

Cats:
Treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis) for 7 to 8 months. Prevents the development of flea larvae in the immediate vicinity of the animal for 10 weeks. Can be used as part of the treatment of flea allergic dermatitis (FAD). The product has a permanent acaricidal (killing) (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus turanicus) and repellent (preventing sucking) effect against ticks (Ixodes ricinus) for 8 months. It is effective against larvae, nymphs and adult ticks. Ticks attached to the cat before the collar is applied may not be killed within 48 hours after its application and may remain on the infested animal. Therefore, it is advisable to remove all ticks on the cat when the collar is applied. After 2 days after application, the collar prevents further tick infestation.

Dogs:
Treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis, C. canis) for 7 to 8 months. Prevents the development of flea larvae in the immediate vicinity of the animal for 8 months. Can be used as part of the treatment of flea allergic dermatitis (FAD). The product has a permanent acaricidal (killing) effect against ticks (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Dermacentor reticulatus) and a repellent (preventing sucking) effect (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus) for 8 months. It acts against larvae, nymphs and adult ticks. Ticks attached to the dog before the collar is applied may not be killed within 48 hours after its application and may remain on the infected animal. Therefore, it is advisable to remove all ticks on the dog when the collar is applied. After 2 days after application, the collar prevents further tick infestation.

Treatment of infestation with whipworms (Trichodectes canis). The product provides indirect protection against the transmission of the pathogens Babesia canis vogeli and Ehrlichia canis transmitted by Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks, thereby reducing the risk of babesiosis and ehrlichiosis in dogs for 7 months. Reduction of the risk of Leishmania infantum infection by phlebotomy transmission for up to 8 months.

Contraindications: Do not use in kittens under 10 weeks of age and in puppies under 7 weeks of age. Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients.

Adverse effects: In rare cases, in the first days after application of the collar, animals that are not used to wearing the collar may experience behavioral disorders such as hiding, vocalization, hyperactivity, excessive licking and/or cleaning or scratching of the application site. In very rare cases, aggression has been reported after application of the collar. Check that the collar is tightened correctly. Rarely in dogs and less often in cats, local reactions such as pruritus, erythema and hair loss may occur at the application site of the collar. These changes usually disappear within 1 to 2 weeks. In rare cases, it is recommended to temporarily remove the collar until the symptoms subside.

Very rarely in dogs and rarely in cats, local reactions such as dermatitis, inflammation, eczema, lesions or bleeding occur at the collar application site. In these cases, it is recommended to remove the collar.
In rare cases, neurological signs such as ataxia, seizures and tremors may occur. In these cases, it is recommended to remove the collar.
In dogs and cats, mild and transient reactions such as sedation, changes in food intake, salivation, vomiting and diarrhoea may also occur rarely initially. As with other topically applied products, allergic contact dermatitis may occur in hypersensitive animals.

The frequency of adverse reactions is defined using the following convention:
- very common (more than 1 in 10 animals treated displaying adverse reaction(s))
- common (more than 1 but less than 10 in 100 animals treated)
- uncommon (more than 1 but less than 10 in 1,000 animals treated)
- rare (more than 1 but less than 10 in 10,000 animals treated)
- very rare (less than 1 in 10,000 animals treated, including isolated reports).

If you notice any serious adverse reactions or other reactions not listed in this package leaflet, please inform us. your veterinarian.

Content of medicinal and active ingredients: One grey odourless collar 38 cm long (12.5 g) contains the following active ingredients: 1.25 g imidacloprid and 0.56 g flumethrin.

Target animal species: Cats, dogs (8 ≤ kg)

Dosage and method of administration:For cats and smaller dogs up to 8 kg, use one collar 38 cm long. For dogs over 8 kg, use the collar for dogs > 8 kg, 70 cm long. For use on the skin. Place one collar on the animal's neck. For external use only.

Instructions for correct administration:Remove the collar from the protective bag just before use. Unroll the collar and remove any pieces of plastic connectors. Place the collar around the animal's neck so that it is not too tight (when properly fitted, 2 fingers can be inserted under the collar). Thread the free end of the collar through the loop and cut off the excess part 2 cm behind the loop. The collar must remain on for the 8-month protection period. Remove the collar after the protection period has expired. Regularly check that the collar is properly tightened. Loosen it if necessary, especially for rapidly growing kittens/puppies. This collar is equipped with a safety lock. If caught in the collar, which is very rare in cats and extremely rare in dogs, the animals usually have sufficient strength to loosen the collar and thus quickly free themselves.

Withdrawal period: Not intended for food-producing animals.

Special precautions for storage:Store out of the sight and reach of children. This veterinary medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions. Do not use this veterinary medicinal product after the expiry date which is stated on the sachet and box or carton. The expiry date is the last day of that month.

Special warnings:
Special warnings for each target species:
Ticks usually die and fall off the host within 24 to 48 hours after infestation without feeding. Individual ticks may attach during therapy. Therefore, under adverse conditions, the transmission of infectious diseases by ticks cannot be clearly prevented. The collar should be applied if possible before the start of the tick or flea season. Although a significant reduction in the incidence of Leishmania infantum infection in dogs has been demonstrated, the product has shown variable repellent effect (preventing sucking) and insecticidal effect on sandflies Phlebotomus perniciosus. As a result, sandflies may suck and therefore transmission of Leishmania infantum cannot be completely excluded. The collar should be applied just before the start of the sandfly activity period, corresponding to the Leishmania infantum spreading season, and should be used throughout the risk period.

As with all locally applied long-acting preparations, a slight and temporary decrease in effectiveness may occur during the seasonal molting period, since a certain part of the active substance is bound in the hair that the animal loses. In these cases, the release of active ingredients from the collar immediately replenishes the losses so that full effectiveness is achieved again without the need for further treatment or replacement of the collar. For optimal flea control in a heavily flea-infested household, treatment of the surrounding area with suitable insecticides may be necessary.

The product is water-resistant and remains effective even if the animal gets wet. However, prolonged and intensive exposure to water or frequent shampooing is not recommended as it may shorten the duration of the product's effect. Studies confirm that after redistribution of the active ingredients in the fur after shampooing or immersing the animal in water once a month, the eight-month effectiveness against ticks is not significantly shortened; however, the effectiveness of the product against fleas gradually decreases from the fifth month of use. The effect of shampooing or soaking in water on the transmission of leishmaniasis in dogs has not been studied.

Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals:
Keep the sachet with the collar in the carton until ready for use. As with all veterinary medicinal products, do not allow children to play with the collar or put it in their mouths. Do not allow animals wearing this collar to sleep in bed with their owners, especially children. Imidacloprid and flumethrin are continuously released from the collar onto the skin and fur while the collar is worn. The collar may cause hypersensitivity in some people.
People with known hypersensitivity (allergy) to any of the ingredients of the product should avoid contact with the veterinary medicinal product. In very rare cases, the product may cause irritation of the skin, eyes and respiratory tract in some people. In case of eye irritation, rinse the eyes thoroughly with cold water. In case of skin irritation, wash the skin with soap and cold water. If symptoms persist, seek medical advice and show the package leaflet or the label to the doctor. Dispose of any remaining collar parts immediately (see section “Instructions for correct administration”). Wash hands with cold water after applying the collar.

Pregnancy, lactation, lay:
Laboratory studies investigating the effects of flumethrin or imidacloprid in rats or rabbits did not show any effect on fertility or reproduction in animals, nor did they show any teratogenic or foetotoxic effects. However, the safety of the veterinary medicinal product during pregnancy and lactation has not been established in the target species. Due to the lack of data, the use of the product in pregnant and lactating bitches or cats cannot be recommended.

Overdose (symptoms, first aid, antidote):
Due to the nature of the collar, the occurrence of clinical signs caused by an overdose of the active substances is unlikely. Overdose was studied when 5 collars were worn simultaneously for 8 months in adult cats or dogs, or in 10-week-old kittens or 7-week-old puppies for 6 months. No other adverse effects other than those described in the "Adverse effects" section were observed. In the rare case that an animal swallows the collar, mild signs of gastrointestinal tract irritation (e.g. soft stools) may occur.

For animals only.
