Cardamom, lat. Elettaria cardamomum, is a sturdy herb growing up to four meters high. It belongs to the ginger family and comes from the tropical rainforests of the Cardamom Mountains. It is still cultivated in India, and also in Guatemala, Tanzania and Sri Lanka.
The leaves are flat and grow up to 70 cm long. Its flowers are white, sometimes slightly yellowish with yellow or pink edges with purple-pink veins. The subject of collection are the massive rhizomes and capsules, which are used as a spice.

Uses:
Cardamom enhances the flavors of all dishes to which it is added. Traditionally, it is added in a pinch to black tea and coffee, as well as to meat or vegetable dishes. In Eastern cuisine, it is used in sweet pastries and sweets, such as cookies, gingerbread or homemade chocolates.
