Gymnema sylvestre (lat. Gymnema sylvestre) is a vine growing up to 8 m long. It is native to India, where it has been known for more than 2,000 years as part of traditional Ayurvedic medicine. It occupies a leading place among Indian herbs, where it is called gur – mar, which can be translated as sugar killer. The main ingredient of gymnema sylvestre is a peptide (gurmarin). The collected part for phytotherapeutic purposes is the leaf, which is taken internally in the form of a decoction.
Gymnema sylvestre contributes to maintaining normal blood sugar levels, supports the metabolism of glucose and fats. It affects appetite and is recommended for body weight control.

Traditional use:
Pour one heaping teaspoon of dried leaves with 200 ml of boiling water. Let stand for 10 minutes, then strain and serve warm. The infusion prepared in this way is used 2–3 times a day.
