Hay is an important part of the diet of our rabbit pets.

Hay in a rabbit's diet:
- Hay is the BASIS of the feed ration!
- Preferably meadow (a mixture of various meadow grasses and herbs)
- Suitable: dandelion, alfalfa, clover
- ATTENTION that the hay is dust-free! (otherwise breathing problems may occur)
- Hay must be stable!, no biological processes may take place in it, i.e. feed after the end of fermentation processes after 6 weeks

Useful tips:
- Hay in the manger loses its smell during the day. It is good to put hay in the manger continuously during the day
- We can add various herbs to the stored hay (dandelion, plantain, marjoram, basil, ...), which will make the hay fragrant and make it more palatable to your rabbit.

Did you know that:
- The fiber contained in the hay supports intestinal peristalsis and maintains a microbacteriological balance in the intestines. This fiber is vital for rabbits (among other things, it helps to eliminate hair that the rabbit gets into during daily hygiene).
- The rabbit has to chew the hay longer, which wears down its molars.
- The most valuable hay is the hay from the first hay cut, which is usually at the end of May and in June. This hay is coarser and contains more fiber.
- Contains vitamin D (due to UV radiation) and beta-carotene (a precursor to vitamin A)
- Has a positive effect on reproduction
- The digestible fiber in hay is a source of energy, replacing starch
- Has a dietetic effect (give after illness, during convalescence, to pregnant females, to young animals)
