A green form of the traditional South American herbal tea mate from the Paraguayan holly.
It has a beneficial effect on renal elimination - the removal of harmful substances from the body through the kidneys. Another property of mate is the regulation of lipid metabolism (fats) and the ability to influence body weight. Mate tea is often drunk during rituals for its ability to strengthen mental well-being and relieve physical fatigue. Drinking mate can achieve overall refreshment of the body.
Mate contains caffeine (up to 2%), which helps increase alertness, improve concentration and contributes to increased endurance performance.
The infusion has a greenish-brown color and a slightly smoky aroma. The taste is strong, slightly astringent and long-lasting.
Preparation: Mate is traditionally prepared in a kallabase (a container made from a special gourd) and drunk through a bombilla (a metal tube with a strainer at the bottom). However, it can be prepared in anything, although with less effect. Pour 10 g of tea into 0.5 l of water at a temperature of 80 °C and let it steep for approximately 10 minutes. For the second infusion, use water at a temperature of 85 °C. A modern preparation is Ice Maté, where mate is poured with ice water and left to stand for about 20 minutes, then strained, seasoned with lemon and sweetened.
