Magnesium stearate is used as a lubricant - it prevents capsules from seizing on the production line. In combination with water and soap, it forms an insoluble substance that forms, for example, the typical non-removable rings on bathtubs. Shellac is a resin secreted by the female lacquer worm, an insect native to India. Sheets of this resin are dissolved in ethyl alcohol to form a liquid shellac that is used as varnish and glaze. These substances are commonly used in dietary supplements, medicines and foods. You won't find them in Viridian supplements.
