Milk thistle is an annual or biennial herb growing up to 1.5 m tall. It belongs to the Asteraceae family. It originates from the dry regions of the Mediterranean and Southeast Asia. It blooms in late June and its purple-red flowers resemble a thistle. For phytotherapeutic purposes, the fruits that develop from the flowers at the end of summer are collected.
