The homeland of moringa oil-bearing is India, the area around the Himalayas. Nowadays, it is found in the tropics and subtropics, where the temperature does not drop below 20 °C. It is a multipurpose plant, from which all parts can be consumed.

The root is used as a substitute for horseradish due to its pungent taste and is able to maintain normal blood glucose levels. Fiber is collected from the bark, from which ropes and mats are made, the branches are a popular food for camels. The seeds from ripe fruits are roasted and taste like nuts.

The leaf is the most interesting part of this plant, on the Indian subcontinent and in Africa it is a traditional part of the diet. It is consumed raw, cooked and dried in salads, soups and sauces. Dried leaves are also used to prepare infusions. Moringa is a plant that is used in many tropical cultures.
