Product detailed description
Smilax officinalis or sarsaparilla (lat. Smilax officinalis) is a perennial herbaceous plant native to Central America and West India. It is used and known in various folk medicines. In traditional Chinese medicine, sarsaparilla is mixed with a number of other plants, while in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, fresh leaf juice is used to rinse the skin.
It reached Europe in the 15th century, and the part that was used in phytotherapy was the root, which contains a high amount of saponins. Due to its high content of saponin substances, the root of smilax was also widely used as an ingredient in beer, which caused its rich foaminess.
Due to its interesting taste and tempting aroma, smilax root is suitable as an ingredient in other tea blends, where it easily covers, for example, a bitter taste.
Smilax medicinal contributes to maintaining normal functions of the digestive system.
