Sultana raisins 400 g BIO BIO NEBIO

Raisins called sultanas are obtained by drying large yellow-green grapes and are distinguished by their fullness of flavor and softness. Our sultanas were grown according to the principles of controlled organic farming, mainly in the Salihli region on the west coast of Turkey. These raisins are unsulphured, which means that they have not been preserved with sulphur dioxide or sulphites. Instead of the usual sulphurisation, alternative methods were used to ensure the necessary shelf life. Before drying, the harvested grapes are briefly immersed in a 5% solution of potash (potassium carbonate) with a little organic olive oil. This shortens the drying time in the sun and reduces the risk of weather changes. The sultanas are dried for only three to five days and retain their light colour during this process - and without sulphurisation! After drying, the sultanas are washed and sorted by hand. The sultanas are prevented from sticking together by sprinkling the berries with a little organic sunflower oil. The oil concentration must not exceed 0.5%.
These sultanas come from the TURKEY project of Rapunzel. They are excellent for baking and cooking, in yogurt, muesli and desserts. We also use them as a substitute for sugar and other sweeteners. Like other dried fruits, raisins are a concentrated source of energy, sugar and nutrients. Among other things, they contain fiber (approx. 5.4 g per 100 g) and in smaller quantities also iron, potassium and B vitamins.
