Product detailed description
A test for accurate measurement of pH in fresh and salt water.
How fish feel in an aquarium or garden pond also depends on the level of acidity. The pH value, also called the degree of acidity, represents one of the most important chemical properties of water, the so-called degree of action of all acidic and basic components dissolved in water. Water with a pH value of 7.0 is described as neutral, water with a lower value is acidic, and water with a higher value is alkaline. Regular monitoring of the pH value is very important, because all organisms in the aquarium react sensitively to drastic and sudden changes in pH. For all organisms in fresh water (fish, plants, microorganisms), the ideal pH value is between 6.5 and 8.5. In freshwater aquariums, the pH value can change in exceptional cases or when changing a large part of the water (total water change). In very soft stagnant aquarium water (KH level is below 1° to 2° dH), the pH level can suddenly drop to worrying values below 4.0. The KH value should be strictly monitored so that it does not reach a value below 2° to 4° dH. Tetra therefore also offers a test to measure the KH value (carbonate hardness).
In saltwater, the pH value is slightly alkaline and ideally at 8.3.
For this reason, most marine fish need water with a pH value of 8.0 to 8.6. To reduce pH fluctuations, it is necessary to ensure that the KH value is between 8° and 10° dH.
The Tetra pH test freshwater is intended for testing in freshwater aquariums and garden tanks. It is not used for measuring in saltwater aquariums, as this leads to inaccurate test results. The Tetra pH test saltwater is intended exclusively for testing in saltwater aquariums.
It is not used for measuring freshwater, as this leads to inaccurate test results.
