Holy basil has been known since ancient Indian Ayurvedic medicine. Its effects have been proven for millennia. The nickname sacred indicates the privileged position this unique herb occupies.

Other names: Tulsí, Tulsi, Tulasí.

Holy basil or Tulsí is a perennial herb native to South Asia. It forms a bush growing to a height of approximately 30–60 cm. The fruit of holy basil is four small brown seeds. The herb has green or purplish leaves, rich in essential oils, spreading a pleasant characteristic aroma.

Particularly in India, Tulsí has its irreplaceable place and, as its name suggests, is associated with religious ceremonies. In the Hindu religion, holy basil represents the reincarnation of the wife of the god Vishnu. It is seen as a connection between our and the spiritual world. It also symbolizes love and purity. Traditionally grown in the courtyards of Hindu temples to cleanse the body, it is also popular among the general population.

In Ayurveda, a traditional healing system originating in India, holy basil is a well-known herb. It is attributed with antioxidant properties.Tulsi supports the immune system to enable it to provide natural defenses. Holy basil brings vitality, so much so that in ancient Ayurvedic texts it is even known as the "elixir of life". Tulsi has a positive effect on our heart, which supports its healthy functioning. Tulsi helps to cope with stressful situations normally. The strengthening effects of holy basil on our respiratory system are also unforgettable.

For external use, baths prepared from holy basil leaves are known from Indonesia, which have sedative and calming effects. In the cosmetics industry, tulsi is used for its antiseptic properties for skin treatment.

The aromatic essential oils contained in it repel stinging insects, which is why it is also used as a repellent.

Use: The usable part is the top. Holy basil is served fresh or dried. Teas, baths, decoctions or spices for dishes are well known. It is often used, especially in Thai cuisine, to flavor chicken, beef or fish dishes.

Traditional dosage: The recommended daily dose is approximately 2–4 g per day.

Use: One teaspoon per cup. Pour boiling water over and let steep for at least 3 minutes. Strain and drink hot or cold. You can sweeten. To make iced tea, let cool and add ice. For maximum effect, drink 3-4 cups a day.

Warning: It is not a substitute for a varied diet. Do not exceed the stated daily dosage. Keep out of reach of children. Not suitable for pregnant and lactating women, children.
