These organic cocoa beans are only air-dried after fermentation and cleaned without roasting. They are suitable for direct snacking, raw desserts and baked sweets. Each bean has a thin, tasteless skin on the surface, which we can (but do not have to) peel off before consumption. We can roast them to enhance the taste. We can also crush or blend the cocoa beans into a powder. The cocoa tree comes from the Amazon and archaeological findings indicate that cocoa was used in what is now Ecuador 5,000 years ago. Although world production is now dominated by Africa, Ecuador is increasingly becoming a destination for gourmet chocolate producers. The local Arriba Nacional cocoa variety stands out with its full, slightly spicy taste and aroma with less bitterness. Our cocoa beans are purchased directly from farmers from several areas, which is why its color and taste may vary slightly.
